Last
year I was making a list for my Ahsoka Tano site (@AhsokaTanosLife), of all the Ahsoka Tano action figures I wish had been made.
Creating this list led me to start contemplating all the figures from The Clone
Wars that were not produced. And that line of thought then migrated to the
plethora of Expanded Universe characters that were never made into action
figures. So just for fun I decided to create my own fictional Hasbro action
figure line, called The Hyperspace Collection. It’s a 3-3/4” and 6” action
figure line celebrating the 1977-2014 Lucas-era of Star Wars, with a strong
emphasis on The Clone Wars and the Expanded Universe. So essentially it’s my
“collector’s dream” line of everything we didn’t get the first time around,
plus all the EU we never got.
The
Hyperspace Collection doesn’t repeat figures already produced by Hasbro in real
life for the most part. The only exceptions are; taking a figure previously
only available in a figure pack and re-releasing it individually carded, and
re-packs of rare figures whose re-sale prices are astronomical. It focuses on
providing a wide range of characters from the Expanded Universe (mainly
stemming from the 157 adult EU novels), completing what wasn’t released for The
Clone Wars and Clone Wars animated, and filling in a few gaps in the Original
and Prequel Trilogies. And like an actual Hasbro Star Wars line I wanted it to
have dimension and depth, so it’s broken out in basic figures, deluxe figure,
figure packs, vehicles, playsets, and some new categories I created myself.
Due
to the fact that The Hyperspace Collection is strictly fictional, and because I
was having fun, my spreadsheets soon ballooned to almost seven hundred pieces.
That’s insanely large and would take years to release. Thus, I ceased adding to
the lists. However, there is still a ton of EU that could be added. The irony
of course is that, if this line was ever made, there’d be no way in hell I
could ever afford it all, short of winning the PowerBall. Haha!
In
a previous article I wrote for my blog entitled “Collecting the Expanded
Universe – Hasbro”, I touched on how despite Hasbro producing hundreds of
figures from the EU over the years, there were not many from the novels. I
speculated this was partially due to the fact that many novel characters only
have one or two artistic renditions, and not all were “official”, which makes
producing accurate figures tricky. But since The Hyperspace Collection is
fictional, that point is essentially moot. Theoretically speaking however, I’m
sure the Hasbro team could make it happen if ever motivated to produce such
characters.
